Period change cycle

Gents,
Guess everybody already saw Christmas video for BF and most likely their Q&A on site.
EW is not in the scope and God knows when we will have new book on it.
The release schedule is now known and looks like for the next ETC, 2020, only three major nations would have their books.
Soviets will have only an entry in "Fortress Europe" compilation with MidWar units in it.

So what I wanted to discuss:
1. How to keep period cycling?
1.1 would we return to 3.5 version of Early war and old point systems? Or Early war needs to be excluded from the cycle?

2. What to play in 2020? Accept that not all nations will have their books and hope for the best? Or stick with MidWar for another season?

A very good question.

One fairly simple solution would be to change the cycle so we have two years of MW followed by 2 years of LW ( more books should be out by then) followed by 2 years of EW (hope we have some lists out in 3 years time),

I don't think v3 is viable - you would never be able to get any games in competitions or in most clubs, there is no Lessons from the Front updates and you might have problems getting hold of some of the books if they go out of print.

I would hate to see EW vanish as it is my favourite period, if after 3 years there is no sign of EW Lists we might have to review things, but at least we would have had more time.

Tbh there is no need to sort this now. Park it until August 2019 when we know more.

Btw there is zero chance EW is coming in the next 3 years.

EW is gone but maybe it will come back after Lw.

Sorry Mark but you do not make the decision. It is voted upon by the Captains. I acknowledge that BF has dropped EW but that doesn't detract from the fact that Zagreb was on the whole a successful tourney and it was EW....
The ETC is _not_ dependant upon BF and if we as a collective want a future ETC to be EW then regardless of BF's disinterest, it will happen.
I think Mike's suggestion of a 2 year cycle has merit while the periods are in such flux and we should review the cycle in the New Year.
Team NZ will be at Novi Sad next year so hoping to catch up with old friends and make some new ones!

Merry Christmas to all!

Hi Mark,
Considering you posted such an absolute statement in a thread discussing ETC rotation, then it is surely no surprise that your post is seen as referring to the ETC. You are also very active in the rules pack info ( thanks for that btw) and this is an ETC forum, so why would you think people would read your post and not think it was directed at ETC policy?

So no, I'm not apologising for my response as I believe it is justified when it appeared clear you meant ETC. Anyway we know each other pretty well and I don't think you will get too out of shape!😉

Just next time make it clear that your post is general FOW and not ETC and there will be no room for mis direction.

Merry Christmas to all!!

As I say there is zero chance EW Ie EW V4 is coming in the next 3 years. If ETC wants to play EW it will either have to play V3 or the V3.5 conversion rules. BF have laid out what the future looks like for V4 until 2022. So ETC can at least know whats coming.

That is, assuming nobody changes the plan, Mark, people have been known to change their plans, especially when you are talking more than a few months ahead.

As Mark Twain said ' nothing is certain but death and taxes' - although anyone who has experience as a gardener would probably want to ad 'weeds' to the list

Happy Christmas all.
