But there is a suggestion floating around if that is done so; The left out 4 candidates still put out their names as volunteers which is great. So they will be given a advisor like status. They can still help out like any other chairman or volunteer but they will not have any voting rights and will not be chairmen. How do you guys feel about that?

I was thinking the same. It is a good solution IMO.

We've been discussing this over the weekend.

Various concdorcet methods are 100% in agreement on the first 5 candidates for the Chairboard (in terms of votes). For the last spot the varying methods are split 50/50 on who should have the spot (between 2 candidates). We are trying to work out how to solve this to the best effect.

It's not the first time that the method for counting the vote is discussed. I really think this point should be clarified for good. It's not normal not to be sure about how to count vote once thé vote is done ^^

I think this should be discussed before anything else after chairmen élection, in order to avoid any discussion with the coming vote.

Just talk to the two candidates. Maybe one will cede his position?

This wasn't a charter change, and didn't require 2/3 vote. The previous vote would have been a more stricter resturcturing and would have kept people out.

So i think the vote is still valid.

Any vote that has the potential to go against something in the charter should be considered a charter vote. It might not be an actual change to the charter, but it deviates from what is outlined in the charter and thus should be judged along the same lines.

My 2 cents though, and I'll keep it at that, seeing that I failed to register my vote for this in time..

Addendum:

I do support the chair/volunteers proposal laid out earlier in this topic

When we instated Condorcet as method of getting votes results, we used Schulze. No particular reason other than popularity and feasibility.

There is no perfect voting system, and there cannot be link

Condorcet sometimes falls into circular dependancy (A>B>C>A), and several "tie-breaker" methods often give different results. I suggest deciding for one of this methods (or even a non-Condorcet method if it is deemed more suitable) and putting it in the Charter, since strictly speaking, Condorcet is not a voting system but rather a group of similar voting systems.

Might I suggest that in the revised Charter we incorporate a simpler system - A multiple transferable vote.

The single transferable vote is used quite a lot and will probably need no explanation to vote connoisseurs.

A multiple transferable vote system can work as follows.

There are X vacacies and X+4 (say) candidates. Voters are invited to vote for all the candidates in order of preference (There is noo bligation to vote for all). The first 6 votes from each paper are allocated to the respective candidates. The r candidate with the lowest total removed ' and the 7th choice substituted for those who had voted for the removed candidate. This process is repeated until there are only X candidates left. If there are 2 or more equal lowest votes they are both removed PROVIDED doing so does not leave less than X candidates. If the latter occurs then recount ALL the votes but only consider the candidates involved in the Tie break. So for example 1 if there are three equal candidates for one place, A. B and C examine every vote and assign it to whichever is the higher of A<B or C on that Paper. If one candidate has 50% of the votes he is elected, if it is split the candidate with the lowest total is removed and his votes reallocated to whichever of the remaining choices is ranked higher on that paper.

This could probably be better laid out on one of those flow diagram charts.

The above system cannot be circular although it is just possible to have a 'complete tie' in remote circumstances. I would suggest drawing lots (or rolling dice) in such circumstances although some sort of duelling system might be more entertaining.

Mike.

Sword or pistol?

Things like that should be also clearly stated in new charter!
