In the budget it shows 8 euro per lunch per person.

What is in that 8 euros exactly?

We are exploring the details atm with different routes. Once we settle on a final food plan we will communicate about it but atm we are looking at having different food trucks, a BBQ outside so everyone can try the delicious Serbian meat, even having a veggie stand, ... where people can go pick a meal during lunch for their lunch voucher. Last time the orga was given the task to keep entry fee at a minimum but now that we know that captains don't mind paying a little more in order to have good food, we have a lot more options. Don't fret we have taken the criticism that food wasn't that good in Serbia last time around at heart, and we are doing everything we can to amend for it and show that we can also deliver in that department.

So more news to come once we have zoned in on the caterers we want to work with and have negotiated with the venue what is possible (BBQ outside would need their approval for instance).

Let us know if you have more questions/concerns!

My question is about price Tom, from everybody i talked to food in serbia is quite cheap so when the price is the same as the hotel food in spain it raises eyebrows.

All I can say is we are still negotiating, and it will be reflected in the final price if we get a cheaper deal. Atm we have budgeted for 8€ pp. Even in Serbia, catering for events like this is not cheap, mind, as it is not usual business so you pay premium price because it's a niche market. So eyebrows may be raised, but the reality is what it is.

Just like last time around plan is to get package hotel deals. As soon as those roll out we will communicate them to the captains. We have a first meeting in two weeks so don't expect them tomorrow but we will for sure try to have a document detailing hotel stays, transport options and other logistical issues way before X-mas.

Will we have the option to opt out of food?

That will depend on the deal with caterer. If we pay per capita then probably not.

Could you pursue this option? We would rather have the choice than pay for food and end up going elsewhere.

We paid for food both years in Novi Sad but ended up finding a better alternative.

The England FOW team usually like to sort out their food themselves some of us ( - no names) are trying to nominally lose weight in reality not putting much more weight on would be a win, others are very selective in what they eat.

An option that does not include food would be preferable and would also help a bit with 'rush hour' queues etc for those that choose to eat there.

It is not a big deal - it just makes the event more expensive (we will probably ignore the food provided ).

Hopefully. The 2014 Serbia event had some of the worst food I have ever tasted - by contrast the venue itself is surrounded by a lot of options, such as gyros and pizza slice places. I think people would begrudge paying anything like 8 euros a head per day if the quality is not substantially improved.

The price itself seems very high, especially if they are enforced on the whole event - considering according to google the 8 euros is twice the price of an average meal in a restaurant and more than twice the price of a large McDonald meal.

Something we are well aware of, and looking to amend. Note though that the previous Novi Sad ETC's had some budget constraints imposed by the chairmen that limited the options, and the caterer in question back then didn't deliver what was promised.

So we are trying to work something out that will ensure quality food, at acceptable prices, without the need for 600+ players to swarm out looking for something. If we have a catering deal we will get back to you on the details, and we can still let the players choose if they want to go with food or not. Depending on the deal it will probably be a GO/NO GO for the entire ETC then though. For now, let us do our jobs and figure out the basics? We can discuss in detail later why our food option could be more expensive than a multi billion dollar megacorporation.

Team Croatia (T9A) would also appreciate if it will be a possibility not to have the food included into the ticket. Being familiar with the city and where the food is 8€ per person per meal is comparable to our traveling cost per person. :)

Marko I wish our travelling costs were €8 per person

Having a team this year with gluten intolerance, vegetarians etc. Team NZ would also like an opt out option for the food package.
We didn’t take it up in Zagreb and the Mall provided great options.

Cheers James
