Battlemats for ETC 2018

#1 by pizzaguardian , Fri Jun 29, 2018 8:08 pm

Hey everybdoy,

ETC 2018 Orga is planning to print some battlemats for this years event, (depending on quality of the material). And in order to make the venture feasible, we were wondering if you would be interested in purchasing such mats. Estimated price is around 35 euros.

Another option would also be that the ETC players purchase the entirety of the mats, and then Orga is willing to part ways with it for the cost of production. With this option we will own the mats, and it will be shipped to future years organisers.

In addition to this, if we go along with this plan; what would be your preferences on mats?

Would sth like attached file work for example? (the quality would be higher, but cant upload it on forum cause 2mb limit)

If purchasing mats for ETC, how much more we'll need to pay?

10 euro per person (A Mat cost 20 euros in total).

2018 orga will store them for free and future orgas just need to pay for shipping to get them, and for return either to future orgas and back to zagreb. Since storage is free there, it would make sense to keep them stored in zagreb.

Sounds good in principle but I have a practical question. Can you check with next year's orga if they are interested in getting the mats on the basis that they would pay for transport? And then who would store them?

Good news on storage. I guess that means you need to check with Novi Sad orga that they are OK with paying transport there and back.

To be honest I dont kow if we are happy with paying aditional 60 as we already have paid for equipment with the entry fee?.

Maybe we can have a look at a mat at Zagreb and then decide if want to spend money on that?

Cheers

I agree with Thomas.

My concern with all this is that we continually seem to be paying additional for items, which isn't correct. The host organising team win the bid and then add to the costs?

Also in previous years, Shawn Morris gave a board to the FoW ETC (in Athens I believe) We have yet to see it make an appearance at any other event since. Where is this expensive board?

If the Host Organisers want to go ahead and print these mats, then let that be their decision, if they then try and recoup some of that cost by selling to players, then that's great, they could also make an approach to Novi Sad, if they want to buy them for next year?

And as Thomas also says, we could look at them in Zagreb and make the decision if we want to add them to the FoW ETC inventory, although, I'm not convinced that this is such a good idea, as I believe that it would be used throughout the year, thereby increasing risk of damage and or loss.

We are inventorising needs for 2019. Whats the status on mats for FOW?

Were they available?
In need of upgrading?
...

All feedback welcome.

The mats we used for flames of war this year is stored Tom, your contact would be djuro.

In the end we didnt go with print mats but a different solution. Peps seem to have liked it well enough since i didnt have any complaints.

Are you saying me contacting Djuro would not be a waste of time in this matter?

Gotcha, so no extra funds were drafted from the captains and you went with plan B. Unless the FOW captains want us to use these mats we will go with a different option.

Not complaining doesn't mean it was well-liked. I doubt you've had more compliments then complaints about them.

While I'm pleased we weren't asked to pay for the cloths, they were better than bare board or maybe green painted boards as it was less harsh on any nicely painted model that tipped on the table. However they were rather garish and possibly only the grey ones might have looked like a snow table. For my part I've played more games on a blue cloudscape than I care to repeat....

Trust me, they weren't that colourful in the product pictures. And as you said better than bare table and a cheap an effective way, easy to store and transfer and can be used in future ETC 's if players are willing.
